How McBride cut its carbon emissions in the last financial year

Between 2024 and 2025, we cut our carbon emissions by 3.1%.

That might sound modest, but we’re shouting about it from the rooftops.

During that timeframe, McBride made more products, bought more materials and sold more goods than the previous year — yet we used less energy, and eighty percent of our electricity came from renewable sources.

In most cases, the bigger a company grows, the higher its emissions. But McBride went the other way, thanks to a team effort that saw our sites work relentlessly to improve efficiency and cut operational emissions by 11% — largely driven by better monitoring, more efficient processes and more renewable electricity.

Honestly, our biggest challenge still sits in the emissions from the products we make – the materials we buy and the goods we produce. These account for the largest share of our carbon footprint, and they’re the hardest to shift because they involve our entire supply chain.

But we love a challenge at McBride. So we’ve been busy redesigning products to reduce carbon hotspots, while working alongside our suppliers as they reduce their own emissions too. That’s seen us compact our formulations, shift to lighterweight packaging and increase the amount of recycled content we use.

We’ve also measured over 600 products to understand exactly where our carbon emissions hide (knowledge is power, after all), and we’re using all that data to inform our decisions.

Sustainability is a team effort, and progress is rarely simple — nor is it straightforward. But small steps, taken consistently, will eventually become big strides. And that’s exactly what we’re starting to see.
